Yeah, it’s not even December yet, but already the folks at Tanglewood are looking ahead to next September, when the 2011 Tanglewood Jazz Festival closes out the summer season at the Lenox concert venue on the Labor Day weekend.

Here’s how the festival is shaping up:

Friday, September 2, 8pm: The Robin McKelle Quartet, the Michael Kaeshammer Quintet

Saturday, September 3, 2pm: Live taping of the “Jazz Inspired” radio show with host Judy Carmichael and a special guest yet to be announced

Saturday, September 3, 8pm: “A Latin Jazz Tribute to Cachao” featuring the Federico Britos Sextet and the John Santos Sextet

Sunday, September 4, 2pm: The Coast to Coast Sextet featuring Jimmy Cobb and the Mingus Orchestra conducted by Gunther Schuller

Sunday, September 4, 8pm: “Sing the Truth: Celebrating the History of Women Vocalists” featuring Angelique Kidjo, Dianne Reeves, Lizz Wright and more

Not all of the great jazz will be taking place during the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, however. It’s important to note that two additional jazz performances will take place at Tanglewood during the 2011 summer season. John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molasky will return for a live taping of their radio show “Radio Deluxe” at 8pm on Sunday, August 21. And the sublime jazz pianist Brad Mehldau will step into the spotlight at 8pm on Thursday, August 25.

All of the above-mentioned performances – the Jazz Festival, as well as “Radio Deluxe” and Brad Mehldau – will take place in Tanglewood’s Ozawa Hall. Tix will go on sale in mid-February.

Looks like I know where I’ll be on Sunday, September 4th. And if Mehldau’s playing Ozawa Hall solo, I’ll parachute in if I have to!
