7/28/10: Today’s Tips: Wednesday


DANCE: Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. It’s the last dance performance of the summer at SPAC, and, boy, is it a whopper. Legendary Tony Award-winning choreographer Jones and his troupe tackle the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. Pre-performance talk at 7:30pm. (Related story and video) 8pm. $40.

MUSIC: Candlebox @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. Back in 1994, they were riding high on the success of their lone Top 20 hit, “Far Behind.” These days, they’re on road in support of their 2008 comeback album, “Into the Sun.” With Effects of Eden and Fort Rooster. 8:30pm. $15

MUSIC: The Opposite of a Train @ the Daniel Arts Center at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Great Barrington. As part of the Berkshire Fringe’s :30 Live! concert series, Bill Carson (guitar, banjo, bicycle), Nathan Koci (accordion, brass, keyboards) and Ron Wiltrout (marimba, drums) dole out an adventurous half-hour concert. 7pm. Free.

DANCE: “Monster” @ the Daniel Arts Center at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Great Barrington. At the Berkshire Fringe, it’s opening night of “Monster” choreographed by Rebecca Pappas and performed by Pappas & Dancers to an original score. 8pm. Pay what you will.

MUSIC: 36 Crazyfists @ Bogie’s, Albany. The band’s new album, “Collisions and Castaways,” landed in stores yesterday. Tonight, the headbangin’ party is at Bogie’s. With Straight Line Stitch, Dirge Within, Gunther Weezul and the Power. 7pm. $15.

MUSIC: Halicarnassus @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Queensbury indie-rock quartet goes unplugged. 7pm. $5.
