Be Here Now: The Wiyos’ Gamville @ Club Helsinki Hudson, 9/10/10

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The Wiyos are hosting Gamville – their very own variety show – at Club Helsinki Hudson in Hudson at 9pm on Friday.

The recently revamped neo-vaudevillian band – which has pared itself down to a trio – are the headliners and the glue that holds it all together, but there will be lots of other performers sharing the stage, including some homegrown talent.

Among the special guests slated to perform are human beatboxer and vocal performance artist Adam Matta, musician and trapeze artist Ryder Cooley and vocalist-musician Lady Moon, as well as the Bleeding Hearts Belly Dance, Chris Neumann and the Grand Track Railway.

Admission is $15.

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

NAME: Parrish Ellis
INSTRUMENT: guitar, banjo, ukulele, vocals

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … The Cars’ “Greatest Hits”

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … The Oak Ridge Boys (not my choice – my parents took me when I was 8)

3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … a crappy student model Baldwin piano

4. THE FIRST SONG THAT I EVER PERFORMED IN PUBLIC WAS … probably a Grateful Dead tune with my high school band

5. THE FIRST BAND I WAS EVER IN WAS … that obscure high school band was named – very strangely – Ly Forbes (don’t ask, there’s no answer)

Parrish Ellis and his bandmates in the Wiyos ramble into The Linda in Albany on Saturday, January 16 in support of their latest album, “Broken Land Bell.”
