10years

MASS MoCA is 10 Years Bold: celebrating its tenth anniversary with a reception for three new exhibits, a gala dinner and an uber-funky concert by soul queen Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings

Turning energy into art: In the main lobby, we found an explanation of the first phase of Michael Oatman’s upcoming massive MASS MoCA installation

“Thursday the 12th” is the new exhibit by Israeli artist Guy Ben-Ner, which includes his 2005 work “Treehouse Kit.” The piece includes a 10-minute video (loosely based on “Robinson Crusoe”) as well as a tree constructed from various wooden furniture parts.

Here’s the cover of “Bird Gets the Worm,” the first of 24 chapters in the George and Fiamma Cochrane’s collaborative graphic novel “Long Time Gone.” The first two chapters are on exhibit.

“Thus My Soul Which Was Still in Flight (The Dark Wood),” a sculptural tableau by Robert Taplin, is the first of nine pieces in his installation “Everything Real Is Imagined (After Dante).” It’s part of the six-artist exhibit, “These Days: Elegies for Modern Times.”

Seth Rogovoy, the editor of Berkshire Living and author of “Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet” (due out in September), shows off a recent injury. Too much typing, Seth?

Dap-Kings

Soul sensations Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings had the dance floor hopping all night long with sweat-inducing performances of “I’m Not Gonna Cry” and “Nobody’s Baby.” In fact, mid-way through the show, there were 10 dancers up on the stage…

But the dancer at far left in the yellow dress is about to get a big surprise…

Suddenly he is asking her...

Suddenly he is asking her…

to marry him...

to marry him…

She said yes.

She said yes.
