Preceded by several rainy days, FLY92’s SummerJam kicked off without a hitch under the sun-drenched Saturday skies. Headliners Big Time Rush, featuring teen-idol singer Logan Henderson, would cap a revolving line-up that started around 12noon with relative newcomers Runner Runner.
Each band was limited to a 20-30 minute set with time in between used to set up the stage, swap amps, mics and in some cases – as with ’90s rap icon Vanilla Ice – erect elaborate stage set complete with banners and a skull over a cave-like archway. And throughout the day, all the bands made themselves available for autographs, photos, hugs and smiles in tents by SPAC’s Hall of Springs entrance.
When rap group LMFAO launched into “Party Rock Anthem,” the responding screams from the fans shot right back toward the stage raising the bar on the noise levels for the day.
