A Summer of Two Dylans at SPAC

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

Back in 1986, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers shared the stage with Bob Dylan at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Now it looks like the Petty/Dylan package is headed back to SPAC again this year… but with a different Dylan.

When Petty and his band roll into Saratoga Springs on Sunday, June 23, it’s been announced that Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers will open the show.

Of course, as announced earlier, Bob Dylan will lead the Americanarama Music Festival into SPAC a month later on Sunday, July 21, with Wilco, My Morning Jacket and Ryan Bingham.

Tom Petty

Tom Petty

The crowd of well over 20,000 jumped to its feet with a thunderous cheer as Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers walked out onto the Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s stage amid a welcoming volley of fog, smoke and explosive flashes.

Sporting a huge grin, Petty launched the Heartbreakers into a hard-hitting set chockfull of hits all the way from “Refugee” to “Free Falling.”

And, yes, Petty certainly does have an awful lot of hits to choose from. Who hasn’t turned on the radio in the last three and a half decades to hear at least one of his hook-filled songs in the mix on just about any rock station – from classic rock to adult contemporary rock programming?
