Tish Hinojosa has spent the past six years living in Germany and touring Europe with her husband Andreas, who handles the merch table and is totally in love with her. And that would explain her infrequent American tours of late and her almost decade-long absence from Caffe Lena.
She finally returned to the famed Spa City coffeehouse earlier this month, and the near full-house audience wouldn’t have cared if she lives across the “pond” or in her birthplace of San Antonio. They were just there to hear Hinojosa’s magnificent songs.
For those not in the groove about Hinojosa – she’s played for President Clinton in the White House; won the NAIRD Indie Folk Album of the Year award for her 1992 release “Culture Swing”; and has released more than 15 albums over the course of her musical career.
Hinojosa’s Mexican-American roots were ever-present in the songs that comprised the two sets that she delivered effortlessly at the Caffe. In other words, she was as gorgeous in person and in voice as she is on any of her recordings.
