Sawyer Fredericks Is “The Voice”!

May 19th, 2015, 11:15 pm by Greg

And the winner is… yes, the Local 518’s own Sawyer Fredericks.

“The Voice” is over for another season, and the 16-year-old Fultonville farmboy emerged as the big winner on Tuesday night’s final results show.

It wasn’t too much of a surprise, as Fredericks has been the clear front-runner right from his blind audition rendition of “Man of Constant Sorrow,” which earned him a four-chair turn.

On Tuesday night’s show, Fredericks duetted with John Fogerty on a medley of Creedence Clearwater revival hits. And while it seemed as though Fredericks microphone wasn’t cranked to the same volume level as Fogerty’s, the live performance didn’t affect in the final decision, as voting had closed earlier in the day at 12noon.

“THE VOICE” UPDATE: Sawyer Fredericks Debuts New Ray LaMontagne Song

May 18th, 2015, 10:10 pm by Greg

For Sawyer Fredericks, it’s all over but the voting… For NBC-TV’s singing competition, “The Voice,” it’s all over but the big announcement of the winner, which comes at 8pm on Tuesday night (May 19) during the season finale results show.

Now it’s up to you…

Let’s see now, on Monday night’s (May 18) live finale of the actual singing competition, the Local 518’s fave Fultonville farmboy duetted with his coach Pharrell Williams on the sweet but lightweight vintage Seals & Crofts nugget, “Summer Breeze.”

Then he dug into “Please,” a soulful song by Ray LaMontagne, who just happens to be Sawyer Fredericks’ main musical influence.

Then he wrapped up Monday night’s show with his final performance by delivering a damn solid knockout rendition of Neil Young’s “Old Man,” which only proved to underscore Fredericks’ wise-beyond-his-years magic.

Voting in the competition continues until the deadline of 12noon on Tuesday (May 19)…

And not that anybody’s asking, but here are my predictions:

“The Voice”: Sawyer Fredericks Goes Goo Goo

April 21st, 2015, 9:00 am by Greg

Sawyer Fredericks – the Local 518 youngster from Fultonville – still hasn’t lost his ever-present bowler hat, but he hasn’t lost his mojo, either. On Monday night’s (April 20) episode of NBC-TV’s hit singing competition, “The Voice,” the teenage farmboy tackled the Goo Goo Dolls’ big ballad “Iris” backed by a string section.

Not exactly what we’d describe as his strong suit – considering that he entered the whole competition with his simple, unadorned audition rendition of the folk song “A Man of Constant Sorrow.” But he nailed “Iris.” And the last lines of the song – the repeated lyrics, “I just want you to know who I am” – resonated deeply. Sawyer, everyone knows who you are now. A bang-up job.

Fan voting for “The Voice” contestants continues til the deadline of 12noon today (Tuesday, April 21), and we’re betting that Fredericks had the right stuff to advance from the Top 10 to the next Top 8 round without a problem. Tune in at 8pm tonight to find out…
