New Album From the Cult Featuring Nippertown’s Chris Wyse

Monday, May 21st, 2012

The Cult – featuring vocalist Ian Astbury, guitarist Billy Duffy, drummer John Tempesta and former Nippertonian Chris Wyse on thundering bass – performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Friday night in support of their new album, “Choice of Weapon.”

Slated for release on Tuesday (May 22), “Choice of Weapon” is the band’s first studio album in five years, following 2007’s “Born Into This.” Co-produced by Bob Rock and Chris Goss, the new album marks the Cult’s debut for the Cooking Vinyl label.

Local music fans will remember Chris Wyse from such past Nippertown rock bands as East Wall, Mister Strange and Nobody, as well as from his current side-project band, Owl, who released their self-titled debut album on Overit Records in 2009.

Bassmaster Chris Wyse made a major musical mark on the Nippertown rock scene back in the late ’80s and ’90s playing in such bands as East Wall, Mister Strange and Nobody.

Then he packed up his gig-bag and headed west, where he relocated to Los Angeles. Since then he’s recorded with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Mick Jagger. He also recently filmed a DVD with Ace Frehley.

These days, you’ll find him traveling the world and playing bass for the Cult. In fact, just last weekend, Wyse was in Sweden, where the Cult was opening for Metallica at the Sonisphere Festival.
