It was the annual New York State Food Festival on Albany’s Empire State Plaza, and to be sure there was a wide variety of food options for your dining or grazing pleasure.

But there was also plenty of music. Led by guitarists David Lowery and Johnny Hickman, veteran indie rockers Cracker were in the headlining slot, churning out tunes from their back catalog, as well as showcasing selections from their latest album, Berkeley to Bakersfield.

Also on hand to keep the music pumping with soul-rockers Gedeon Luke & the People and Local 518 blues-rockers Soul Sky, led by guitarslinger Mark Emanatian.

The fourth annual Blues Bash was held last weekend at the Fuller Roadhouse Grille in Albany, as a fundraiser for the Capital Region Blues Network. It was a knock-down, drag-out night of fiery guitar pyrotechnics from one of the Local 518’s finest guitarslingers Rhett Tyler and his band Early Warning, in support of their latest CD, The Rhythm The Power The Blue. The stage simply couldn’t contain him…

“Music for the Mind”: Helping and Healing

Music is one of the strongest forces of communication and is capable of changing our thoughts, our emotions, our outlook on life. It is a great teacher and healer.

The “Music for the Mind” benefit concert was held at Revolution Hall in Troy back in August, organized by Casey LeCuyer in an effort to honor her brother, Gage, and to assist in the awareness of suicide prevention. The fundraiser featured several Local 518 bands – including Soul Sky, Knot Dead and the Mike McMann Band – who donated their time and talent, playing to a large crowd and encouraging those in attendance to be part of the Out of the Darkness Walk to be held in September in Saratoga Springs.
