Real Good for Free: The Sippy Cups @ The Egg, 12/6/09

December 1st, 2009, 2:05 pm by Greg

You may have already been aware that cool children’s rock band the Sippy Cups are headed into The Egg in Albany for a fun, fun show at 3pm Sunday (December 6).

But you might not have known that admission to the performance is now free. That’s right, admission to the concert was originally $12, but the Sippy Cups’ show has become part of the official Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival at the Empire State Plaza on Sunday, and as such tickets will be free. A ticket is required, however, and the free tickets will be available at The Egg’s box office beginning at 2pm Sunday (December 6), one hour prior to the performance. Tickets will also be available at that time by phone (473.1845) and online at

The Sippy Cups’ live show features family-friendly rock music, giant balloons, confetti cannons, aerialists and costumed characters bringing the songs to life.

Just in time for the band’s Nippertown tour stop, the Sippy Cups are pleased as punch to welcome new member Gabby La La, who will play accordion, ukulele, theremin and sitar. In addition to releasing her debut solo album, “Be Careful What You Wish For..” in ’05 on Les Claypool’s Prawn Song Records label, she has studied North Indian classical music with master Ali Akbar Khan and backed such diverse pop artists as Snoop Dogg, Macy Gray and Bob Weir & Ratdog.

Sippy Cups lead singer Paul Godwin is mighty excited about his new bandmate. “Sippy La La will add some sweet new sounds, sights and flavors to our mix-in,” he says. “We welcome her kooky songwriting, space-age vocal stylings and bevy of unique instruments. See you in the next dimension.”

The Sippy Cups’ new album, “The Time Machine,” recently earned an Honors Award in the National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Children’s Products competition, as well as a Parents’ Choice Recommended Award.
