RIP: Sal Maida, 1932-2010

Sal MaidaVeteran jazz pianist Sal Maida passed away on Thursday after a long illness. He was 77 years old. Throughout his long career as a jazzman Maida performed with such greats as Nick Brignola, Ed Wool and Al Santoro. He was a regular presence on the the Capital Region jazz scene, performing at such popular venues as the Sagamore, Justin’s and One Caroline Street.

Calling hours are 6-8pm today (Monday) at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. The funeral will take place at 10am Tuesday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St., Gloversville. Donations may be made in Maida’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
