The annual block party in the street and parking lot outside of Pinhead Susan’s in Schenectady became a full-fledged festival this year with a large stage and a headlining band that’s played many festivals in their years together.

And to make it complete, it rained. But not hard, just a constant drizzle that probably discouraged some, but didn’t slow down the hardy partiers one bit.

Michael Glabicki, the singer-songwriter and lead vocalist of Rusted Root, looked a little out of place behind his sunglasses on the small stage in the Putnam Den. After all, he and his Pittsburgh-based band were used to playing much bigger venues and festival stages.

To Glabicki’s left, co-founding band-member Liz Berlin stood at the microphone, holding a set of mallets and a drum slung around her neck. In the shadows behind her, one of the outfit’s two lead guitarists Colter Harper waited cradling his Telecaster.

LIVE: Rusted Root @ Pearl-Palooza, 7/3/10

The inaugural Pearl-Palooza street festival took over North Pearl Street in Albany on Saturday afternoon. And while it looked as though it might be a bust early on – at least attendance-wise – by the time headliners Rusted Root took the stage shortly after 4:30pm, the street was packed with music fans and the curious, noodle-dancing their way along the hot asphalt and crowded sidewalks.
