Live Dance as a Cutting Edge Multimedia Installation at EMPAC Nov. 16-17 [Berkshire on Stage]

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute announces Four Walls, an EMPAC commissioned live multimedia dance installation by dancer/choreographer Ralph Lemon. The performances will take place in EMPAC’s Studio 1 – Goodman on Friday, November 16 at 8 PM and Saturday, November 17 at 4 PM.

In the video above, Ralph Lemon talks about how he develops his concepts as he works on an earlier dance piece at MOMA. At EMPAC, his new work Four Walls will be seen for the first time.

With Four Walls, Ralph Lemon, in collaboration with Shoko Letton and Mike Taylor, premieres a live multimedia dance installation that provides four points of view on one dance, giving a new shape to the “dance with no form.”

The basis of the amorphous collaborative work is a play on time, energy, and the disappearing body. This exploration engages the spectator in a creative process that is relentless in questioning the nature of what passes between performers and audiences.
