Radio station Q103-FM celebrated the recent holiday with the “Thanksgiving Hangover Show” at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany.

Poughkeepsie natives Pipebomb started the night off, and their fans were out in full force. This hard-rock quintet tried out for Q103′s “Play for the Stage” back in July. They made it to the finals but came in second place – losing to Selfish Needy Creatures, who won the opening slot at SPAC with Godsmack – so Pipebomb was chosen to perform at the T-Day Hangover show for rocking so hard. Their loud and powerful, cohesive sound got the crowd going and set the mood for the rest of the night.

Tennessee rockers Egypt Central took the stage next. From the first moment on stage, they erupted with powerful energy and blasting sound. Both guitarists and vocalist John Falls were hyped up, moving and jumping around the stage, and drum sticks were often seen flying. At one point in the performance, frontman Falls screamed, “When we go crazy, we want to see YOU go crazy,” encouraging those sitting in the bleachers to get on their feet. The 45-minute set included crowd favorites “Taking You Down,” “The Drug,” “Kick Ass,” “You Make Me Sick” and “White Rabbit.”

Playin’ For the Stage… at SPAC

July 14th, 2011, 1:00 pm by Greg

Radio station Q103 is sponsoring the big Q-Ruption fest at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Friday, August 19. Already announced for the fest are Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, Skillet, Sick Puppies and Egypt Central. But one more band will also be sharing the stage.

Yes, the folks at Q103 are giving one local Nippertown band the opportunity to kick off the fest by stepping into the spotlight on the big SPAC stage. The contest is called Play for the Stage, and the radio station has selected eight of the nine finalists who will be competing in a battle-of-the-bands styled playoff on Friday nights at Savannah’s. The eight finalists are the Hearing Aides, the Joe Nacco Band, Nine Ball, Pipebomb, Potter’s Field, Tamerlane, Uncivil Liberty and Wormhole.

But that still leaves one slot open in the semi-final competition, and you get to pick ’em. The radio station has narrowed down the contestants to five bands: the Erotics, Fort Rooster, Garden Road, HyGear and Selfish Needy Creatures. You get to vote for your favorite of those five bands and help to move ’em up into the semi-final round. Online voting is now underway, and the deadline for votes is 12midnight on Monday, August 1.

October 18th, 2010, 3:01 pm by Greg

Earlier today, we told you about the private, invite-only show by Guster at Jillian’s in Albany on Sunday night.

Apparently, that’s not the only game in town this weekend. Radio station Q103 is also throwing an invite-only bash beginning at 7pm on Saturday night at Northern Lights in Clifton Park. They’ve dubbed it Rocktoberfest, and headlining the evening’s festivities will be Michigan hard-rock heroes Pop Evil. Local faves Bulletproof Messenger, the Blisterz and Mrozek & the Yeah Guys will be rounding out the live music.

And again, you can’t buy tix to the show, but you can enter to win tix at the Q103 website.
