LIVE: Rusted Root @ Pearl-Palooza, 7/3/10

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

The inaugural Pearl-Palooza street festival took over North Pearl Street in Albany on Saturday afternoon. And while it looked as though it might be a bust early on – at least attendance-wise – by the time headliners Rusted Root took the stage shortly after 4:30pm, the street was packed with music fans and the curious, noodle-dancing their way along the hot asphalt and crowded sidewalks.

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … Hmmmm, tough to say, owned many tapes early on, but the first one I bought for myself was probably Bon Jovi’s “New Jersey.” I remember getting yelled at for singing along with it in while I had headphones on when we were vacationing in Florida. Apparently, I didn’t get the concept that only YOU can hear headphones… The cooler album would’ve been Zep’s “Houses of the Holy,” which I owned and played down to nothing around the same time, but since I think I stole it from my dad’s cassette collection, can’t really claim that I “bought” that one.

Festival Fever: Pearl-Palooza @ Pearl St., 7/3

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

A new outdoor downtown street festival has popped up on the concert calendar. They’re calling it Pearl-Palooza, and it’s slated to take over North Pearl Street in downtown Albany from 12noon-6pm on Saturday, July 3. The main stage is slated to be located at the corner of North Pearl and Pine streets. Admission is free.

In addition to the numerous Pearl Street drinking establishments, the fest is also being sponsored by WEQX-FM. The radio station also sponsored the Saturday main stage music at last month’s Tulip Festival, although they are no longer involved with such other big outdoor bashes as Troy’s River Street Festival and Albany’s LarkFest, as they have been in the past.

The line-up of performers for Pearl-Palooza include:

12noon: Locksley
1:15pm: Civil Twilight
2:45pm: We Are Scientists
4:15pm: Rusted Root

In addition, a number of local bands – Black Mountain Symphony, Timbre Coupe, Rudeke, the Ameros, Dirty Paris and others – will be performing throughout the day at the various indoor venues that dot the Pearl St. landscape.
