Happy Birthday, Joan of Arc

599 years ago today, a peasant girl was born in Eastern France who would ultimately lead the French army to victory at Orleans during the Hundred Years War (we’re telling you now so you can start planning your sexcentennial party.) Later she was sold to the English and burned at the stake at the age of nineteen. In 1920 she was canonized as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.
