You probably drive-by it all the time without even ever really noticing it, except maybe for that big rock. Dana Park is that tiny, little pocket park in the heart of Albany at the intersection of Lark Street and Madison Avenue. And for the past seven years, it’s been home to the annual Dana Park Concert Series on Monday evenings all summer long.

It ain’t no big woo-hah like Alive at Five or Rockin’ On the River, but rather an intimate gathering of folks under the streetlights and an up-close chance to listen to some of the Local 518’s primo homegrown musical talent – from jazz (the Dylan Perrillo Orchestra, the New York Jazz Duo) to Americana (the Nellies, Ramblin Jug Stompers) and beyond.

The always charming barefoot singer-songwriter Olivia Quillio wrapped up this year’s eight-concert series with a lovely performance in support of her new album, Get Down and Pray. ‎Meara Mctague & Friends opened up the musical festivities for the evening.

One of the brightest stars on Nippertown’s singer-songwriter scene, Olivia Quillio took home top honors at the Garage 2 Glory: Singer-Songwriter competition at Albany’s College of Saint Rose in 2011 – in a unanimous decision. And soon she was playing everywhere with a rich songbag that included such gems as “The Bomb” and “Easy Lover.” Whether playing barefoot and solo or as a duo or in the short-lived all-star Babe City, Quillio was never less than captivating.

The Honest Weight Food Co-op hosted its fifth annual Local Harvest Festival at the Lakehouse in Albany’s Washington Park earlier this month. And while the focus of the free fest was a Local Foods Marketplace with more than 50 vendors, the day-long event also presented a harvest of homegrown Local 518 music, too, including performances by Rosary Beard, Olivia Quillio, Banshee Tree and the Lucky Jukebox Brigade.

One night just wasn’t enough…

So on the night after Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned teamed up with Ray Murray & the Bomb Squad, WEXT-FM’s sixth anniversary bash at Valentine’s Music Hall continued with yet another evening of rock ‘n’ roll revelry.

Headlining Night Two of the celebration was the Figgs’ Pete Donnelly, who served up a preview his sophomore solo album, Face the Bird, which is slated for official release on August 20. Sharing the stage for Exit 97.7 birthday party were Local 518 favorites Olivia Quillio and Bear Grass.

Let’s face it, Bogie’s in Albany is best known for hardcore and heavy metal headbangin’ – not exactly a mecca for unplugged sounds. But that didn’t stop Delirium Entertainment from presenting a recent acoustic music showcase featuring an array of Local 518 singer-songwriters, including Olivia Quillio, Kyle McDonough, Phoebe Henry, Zan Strumfeld and others…
