Photograph by M.R. Poulopoulos, who notes:

I shot this photo on Saturday, July 14 while on the road. This old Nipper statue sits in the front store window on Mynotera Old Books at 65 E. Market Street, Suite 101 in Corning, NY. I was stuck in Corning on Friday night, busked Saturday morning and afternoon (was kicked out of the square by “The District”) and wandered after a bit.

A Great Big Thank You to Metroland Readers

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Hey, somebody out there likes me!

Hey, somebody out there likes me!

We’ve uncorked the champagne, and the bubbly is flowing in celebration of the results of the Metroland Readers’ Poll in today’s issue of the weekly.

Metroland readers bestowed double honors on Nippertown.com, voting us as the Best Local Website for Arts, as well as the Best Local Website for Music.

And we’re just as proud of the results in the Best Local Arts Coverage category, where we were competing against the Big Boys of Print – Metroland, The Daily Gazette, The Times Union, etc. – and grabbed second place, behind our friends at Metroland.

We’d also like to congratulate our mascot Nipper, who garnered at least one vote in the write-in category of Best Local Celebrity Whom You’d Like To Marry for Their Money. (Void where prohibited by law.)

So thank you, astute and discerning Metroland readers, for showing us (and, of course, all of our contributors) some big love. And we promise to do all that we can to continue to make Nippertown.com your go-to click-to for area music, arts and entertainment info.

Cesar Millan

Best-selling author, television star and canine behavior specialist Cesar Millan is headed into Albany for an appearance at the Palace Theatre at 7pm on Sunday, March 27.

Priced at $35.75 and $45.75, tix are slated to go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday, January 14. In addition, a limited number of VIP tickets – which includes a ticket to the appearance as well as a post-show meet ‘n’ greet with Millan – will also be available for $75.

Millan is the co-creator and the two-legged star of cable television show “Dog Whisperer” on the National Geographic Channel, as well as the co-author of three books: The New York Times #1 bestseller “Cesar’s Way,” bestseller “Be the Pack Leader” and “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan: The Ultimate Episode Guide.”

At his appearance at the Palace, Millan will touch upon his life experiences and teach attendees how to apply his techniques in the training and rehabilitation of their own dogs.

Let’s just hope that Millan doesn’t coax Nipper down from the roof…

Chuck Miller: Nipper Polar Panorama

Chuck Miller: Nipper Polar Panorama

Yes, this print of one of our favorite dogs, the Nipper Polar Panorama created by Chuck Miller back in June, will be up for auction at Art Saves Animals next Thursday, September 30, from 5:30-8:30pm at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy.

Tickets for an evening of wine, fine food and your chance to bid on this print, along with a host of other artwork (some of which we will be showcasing over the next week and a half) are just $40, and the proceeds go to help The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society in their efforts to save the lives of homeless, abused and abandoned pets in the Capital Region.
