Guinness! It’s Good Food!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

guinness.jpgWe here at don’t really need a reason to raise a pint of Guinness and toast to good friends and good times. We do it on a regular basis – with or without reason. But if you happen to feel that a reason is required, well, at least today you’ve got one.

Today marks the 250th anniversary of Guinness, and the St. James’ Gate Brewery in Dublin is celebrating in fine fashion with a big blow-out concert.

If you can’t get a draft, you’ll want to opt for the cans, not the bottles, if you value a creamy head:

So raise your glass to Guinness – a meal in a glass!

Happy Joe Strummer’s Birthday

Friday, August 21st, 2009

sandinistaprojectToday would have been Joe Strummer’s 57th birthday. In honor of this, The Sandinista Project!, a tribute to the Clash, is being offered as a free download, including high quality mp3s of the original CD as well as a bonus track and PDFs of the artwork. As Jimmy Guterman explains:

“The Sandinista Project didn’t set any sales record and of course the number of copies shared on the Net was greater than the number we sold. We didn’t undertake the project to make ourselves any money (it was a charity record) so I didn’t mind that it was available everywhere for free. But it did bother me that so many of the torrented versions sounded like crap.”

Do it today – it’s a one-day only thing, and at midnight PDT, it’s gone.
