So he teamed up with Bill McCann‘s “Saturday Morning Edition of Jazz” weekly radio show on WCDB (90.9 FM) to present a four-hour “Tribute to Michael Brecker.”
“He has been my main musical influence ever since the day I first heard him play as a freshman in high school,” says Patneaude, who not only leads his own quartet, but also plays with Alex Torres y Su Orquesta, Keith Pray’s Big Soul Ensemble, Doc Scanlon’s Rhythm Boys and other bands around town.
“As a matter of fact, if it weren’t for Michael Brecker and his music, I doubt I’d be doing what I’m doing with my life right now.”
Since that first broadcast, the Brecker tribute radio show has become an annual event, and Patneaude will be joining McCann behind the microphone once again at 8am Saturday for the 2010 installment.
“In years past, we’ve focused on Brecker’s work as a leader and as a sideman,” says Patneaude. “This time around, we’ll be playing songs by two groups he was associated with for most of his career – the Brecker Brothers and Steps Ahead.”
Folks can tune in to WCDB at 90.9 FM on their radio or listen online.
