After the overkill of the Saturday MOVE Music Festival festivities – nearly 100 bands playing at 11 different locations during a 12-hour period – things thankfully got quite a bit more manageable on the Sunday with just one single event to wrap up the fest weekend at McGeary’s Pub in Albany.

The Women of MOVE Music Festival Showcase added some estrogen to the musical marathon with Erin Harkes, Margo Macero, Jocelyn Arndt (of the Dependents) and Bridgette Guerrette in the tent in front of Tess’ tavern.

It sure sounded mighty impressive – nearly 100 bands performing at 11 venues around Albany. But with nearly all of the third annual MOVE Music Festival taking place within the span of just 12 hours, it’s pretty much impossible to get to all of the venues or to see more than a dozen bands.

So it’s mighty impressive to see uber-music fan and regular Nippertown contributor Tim Reidy’s collection of MOVE photos. Somehow, he managed to hit nine of the 11 venues, and he’s got a whole lot more photos than you see here. (GO HERE to see more of Tim Reidy’s photos of the fest.)

And if you’re ready to do it all over again, MOVE Music Fest has already announced the date for next year’s fourth Annual MOVE Music Festival – April 24-26, 2015…

They are the Ark-Tones. They play rockabilly.

I went to the Hudson Music Fest earlier this month and caught a cocktail of premium rockabilly served up by Lara Hope & the Ark-Tones, and now I’m back, to let you know she can really shake ’em down from the floor-boards up!

Rock/blues & rockabilly done this well is a beautiful thing to behold, Lara Hope is a beautiful thing to behold, from her Betty Page hair-do to her commanding, captivating vocals, delivered from behind cats-eye glasses with head-swiveling-style. Her band is a tight unit anchored by the upright bass of Matt “The Knife” Goldpaugh and featuring the precise, dare I say it, Tichy-like guitar work of Chris Heitzman and the cave-stomp skin-pounding of one Dave Tetreault.

ROUND-UP III: Hurricane Irene Flood Relief Benefits

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Ten Year Vamp

Ten Year Vamp (shown here at SPAC last summer) will perform at Capital Region Relief on Thursday at Proctors

It’s been nearly a month since much of Nippertown was hit with severe flooding, and many of our neighbors are still suffering and struggling to recover – including some of our own regular contributors. They need our help. So please consider making a donation of whatever you can – your time, money, food, clothing, furniture, etc.

As usual, the local music community has come together to offer its time and talent to help out, too. There are quite a number of flood relief benefit concerts on tap throughout the region, starting tonight. Here’s a round-up of some of the benefit shows. If you know about others, please let us know. And remember, the admission charge for these shows is just a suggested minimum donation. If you can give more, please do:
