Matthew Carefully: Lights, Camera… Music

December 2nd, 2011, 2:00 pm by Greg

Multi-talented Matthew Carefully likes to keep his fans on their toes with his constant musical surprises. On Sunday evening at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, he’ll be rolling out another one – a CD release party for the years-in-the-making soundtrack for “Brunswick,” director Nate Simms’ documentary film about land-use issues in Rensselaer County.

It’s likely to be a one-time-only performance, so if you want to see it, it’s a now-or-never kind of deal.

Matthew Carefully

Matthew Carefully always likes to make it special, so as he geared up for last weekend’s Rest Fest, he had two surprises up his sleeve. One was the one-time-only performance of the Undone Ensemble on Sunday, who you can see and hear right here. The other was a limited edition mixtape of previously unreleased music.

Now he’s decided to offer the mixtape as a free download.

The 10-song set includes a couple of live tracks, too – “Poughkeepsie” recorded at the inaugural Rest Fest last year, and “Prayers & Palms” recorded at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy back in June.

St Joseph's OblivionIn honor of this weekend’s big Rest Fest at St. Joseph’s Church in Albany, master musical innovator Matthew Carefully decided to do something special.

So he and recording guru Frank Moscowitz loaded a bunch of musical instruments and recording gear into St. Joseph’s Church this morning and recorded a full album of new material live in the church. They finished recording just after 10am.

And when Rest Fest kicks off at 12noon of Saturday, Carefully will be offering a limited edition of the new CD, “St. Joseph’s Obilvion,” for sale at the festival.

Carefully is slated to perform at the festival at 1pm on Sunday. For a full schedule of performances – including showtimes – go here.
