LIVE: Mark Eitzel @ The Linda, 7/22

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

When Mark Eitzel wrote on his blog that his current just me-and-my-piano-player tour was “a kind of a Tony Bennett thing,” I had no idea that he meant it literally.

So it was something of a surprise when the American Music Club frontman launched his concert at The Linda on Tuesday, July 23 with “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

Sadcore king Mark Eitzel is one of my very favorite singers, but I’ve only been fortunate enough to see him in concert a couple of times – with American Music Club at QE2 and with Tuatara at the Iron Horse Music Hall.

Now he’s heading out on a very intimate tour that he’s dubbed “Mark Eitzel Performs American Music Club.” He’ll be accompanied by AMC alum Marc Capelle on the piano – and that’s it.

As Eitzel declares on his blog, “It’s kind of a Tony Bennett thing, I guess. But it gives me the chance to do these songs – and really sing them – without the distraction of a guitar.”

Even better, the tour is headed to Nippertown. Eitzel makes a stop at Jason’s Upstairs Bar in Hudson at 8pm on Sunday, July 19, as well as The Linda in Albany at 8pm Wednesday, July 22.

Don’t miss him.
