It was good times and a hot, sweaty time on stage for the WEXT birthday show at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany last Thursday.

First up was the Lucky Jukebox Brigade, who gave a well-sung performance which got the show off to a good note. Next, Scientific Maps got everyone to lose weight with their “lo cal” set, which included a Kamikazee Hearts song, along with a couple of originals and more covers.

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … A doo wop compilation on cassette when I was seven. I wanted the original version of “Earth Angel” by the Penguins, not the Crew-Cuts, and my mom tracked it down at Blue Note on Central Ave. I was always into the oldies stations on the radio, so that’s how I got turned on to doo wop.

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … It was actually a dozen of them through one of those Columbia House deals where you sign up, and then they let you pick through what they have and ship ’em to your house. A lot of it was music to get stoned to at the time: The Doors (self-titled), 3 Radiohead albums (“OK Computer,” “The Bends,” “Amnesiac”), a Bob Dylan compilation, “The White Album,” an Oasis album, Jaco Pastorius (self-titled), Rage Against the Machine (self-titled), “Skeletons in the Closet” (Grateful Dead) and the “Star Wars (A New Hope)” soundtrack. That’s all I can remember. Before that, I was listening to my mom’s vinyl, Billy Joel on tape/CD, and who knows what else.
