Ramblin Jug Stompers are mounting a radio blitz for their upcoming new CD, “Hobo Nickel,” and their album release party at The Linda in Albany at 8pm Friday.

Wild Bill and Mister Eck of Ramblin Jug Stompers join host Sarah LaDuke in the WAMC studio for “Performance Place” at 11:30am today (Wednesday) to chat about their new album, “Hobo Nickel,” and to offer a sneak preview of several of the songs from the CD. Tune in to 90.3 FM or log on to stream live.

Wild Bill will also be sitting in as special guest with host Jimmy Barrett on his wildly eclectic “Kaleidoscope” at 9-11am Friday, October 2 on WVCR-FM (aka, The Saint 88.3 FM), spinning his fave selections from the new disc.

And the fine folks over WEXT FM (aka, The Exit at 97.7 FM) will be featuring a whole mess of tunes from “Hobo Nickel” all day long on Friday, as Mister Eck and Wild Bill practically hijack the station and force them to broadcast interludes of “Hobo Nickel Radio” throughout the day. Listen for CD giveaways, too.

LIVE: Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters @ The Linda, 8/8/09

Monday, August 10th, 2009

RE04Some musicians just play the blues.

Not guitarslinger Ronnie Earl. He’s lived the blues, and he’s somehow managed to survive the tough times and come back out on top.

At The Linda on Saturday, August 8, Earl spoke from the stage about his alcoholism and about being sober 20 years now. He spoke about not touring for almost 10 years because of illness and depression.

The concert was a real event, and everyone seemed to know it. “A couple I spoke with before the concert came up from NYC specifically for this concert. They said Earl hasn’t played there since 1999,” says photographer Andrzej Pilarczyk. “Another couple with kids drove in from Buffalo because evidently this concert was a one-off and not part of a tour.”

LIVE: Mark Eitzel @ The Linda, 7/22

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

When Mark Eitzel wrote on his blog that his current just me-and-my-piano-player tour was “a kind of a Tony Bennett thing,” I had no idea that he meant it literally.

So it was something of a surprise when the American Music Club frontman launched his concert at The Linda on Tuesday, July 23 with “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

Real Good For Free: CRUMBS Nite Out @ The Linda

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

I’ll be on a panel discussion about home music recording with Dan Berggren and Troy Pohl and moderators Paul Rapp and Paul Czech. We’ll be talking about the hows and whys of home studios, recording, and probably lots of other tangents.

Prior to the panel discussion, there will be music by the very cool chamber-pop ensemble Eric Margan and the Red Lions beginning at 7pm. It should be an extra-special performance, as the band will be expanding to a larger-than-usual 10-piece group in order to perform their recently released debut CD “Midnight Book,” in its entirity from beginning to end.

CRUMBS Nite Out, 8 PM, Thursday June 25th at the Linda Norris Auditorium.
