1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … I feel like the first cassette tape I ever bought was of the Gin Blossoms! (I grew up in Phoenix.) I also bought a lot of musicals on tape – I did a lot of musical theater when I was a kid, and I loved that stuff.
2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … I don’t want to answer this – Green Day!!
3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … An acoustic guitar that used to tear my fingers to shreds, I think it was an old crappy Fender?

We just love it when somebody comes along and mixes up music with the visual arts, so we are indeed pleased that the second annual heARTS aligned performance will be taking place at the Bread & Jam Cafe in Cohoes at 7:30pm on Saturday.
Organized by Matt Durfee – who was one of the performers at last year’s inaugural event – heARTS aligned pairs up local songwriters with visual artists. Here’s how it works: The visual artists use the songwriter’s music to inspire art works that they’ve created during the past several months. On Saturday, images of the artwork are projected above the stage. The songwriters perform their songs under the projected images, according to a lottery set list. The artwork is then given away to lucky members of the audience.
This year’s heARTS aligned will feature the music of singer-songwriters Ashley Pond and Katie Haverly matched with the visual imaginings of artists Nick Reinert and Eugene M. Falco. Presiding over the procedings will be emcee, raconteur and Nippertown.com contributor, Matt Mac Haffie.
Doors open at 6:30pm, and the audience can peruse the artwork. The musical performance and giveaways begin at 7:30. Admission is $7, which includes entry into the artwork giveaways.
