Jim Brickman, What Was the First Album You Ever Bought?

“I can’t remember exactly, but I know that it was probably one of two albums. It was either Elton John’s ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ or a Barry Manilow album, but I can’t remember which Barry Manilow record it would have been. I can’t remember what his albums were titled. I think they were just numbered, so it was probably ‘I.’ But I’m almost sure that it was ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.’

I think that it makes sense. If I’m ten years old and I play piano, it would stand to reason that I would like Barry Manilow and Elton John and … well, I had Billy Joel sheet music because I thought some of the chords were really interesting, but I wasn’t a huge fan. And I loved Burt Bacharach and the Carpenters. I thought Burt Bacharach was really amazing.”

Romantic pop pianist Jim Brickman brings his “A Christmas Celebration” tour to the Palace Theatre in Albany at 7:30pm on Thursday (December 8). Tix are $32, $42 & $52; VIP $77 (includes post-concert meet-and-greet).
