The Return of Chandler Travis (Again!)

Chandler Travis is back.

After years of banging out music that is both sweet and out-there – sometimes at the same time – singer-songwriter-ringleader Chandler Travis seems to have made Nippertown his second home. In a dizzying variety of different musical contexts – from solo to the Incredible Casuals to the Chandler Travis Philharmonette to the full-blown, three-ring Chandler Travis Philharmonic – he’s become a regular around town, making stops at Caffe Lena, The Linda, Valentine’s Music Hall and some Indian restaurant in Clifton Park.

“Thank You Friends: A Celebration of Alex Chilton of Big Star and the Box Tops” takes place at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton at 7pm on Saturday.

In memory of Alex Chilton – who died unexpectedly last month just days before to was scheduled to perform with Big Star at SXSW – a number of musicians are gathering together to sing his praises and his songs. Among the performers are Chris Collingwood (of Fountains of Wayne), Mark Mulcahy, Winterpills, Henning Ohlenbusch, Rick Murname, Thane Thomsen, Dave Houghton, Lesa Bezo, Sitting Next to Brian and Paper Piano.

Tix are $10 in advance; $13 at the door.
