It’s now been two and a half months since Hurricane Irene rumbled through Nippertown, severely damaging homes, farms and businesses in its wake. Here are a few upcoming fundraising events. Please help your friends and neighbors in need in whatever ways you can:

Sunday, Oct. 9 @ The Flynn Theater: Grace Potter & the Noctunals

It’s been a month since much of Nippertown was hit with severe flooding, and many of our neighbors are still suffering and struggling to recover – including some of our own regular contributors. They need our help. So please consider making a donation of whatever you can – your time, money, food, clothing, furniture, etc.

As usual, the local music community has come together to offer its time and talent to help out, too. There are quite a number of flood relief benefit concerts on tap throughout the region, starting tonight. Here’s a round-up of some of the benefit shows. If you know about others, please let us know. And remember, the admission charge for these shows is just a suggested minimum donation. If you can give more, please do:

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … I was lucky to have grown up with an older brother that was into ’70s hard rock and had a nice record collection. This gave me very early exposure to the likes of AC/DC, Foghat, Alice Cooper, KISS, etc… The first album I ever bought with my own hard-saved cash though, was “2112” by Rush on vinyl. I had no idea what I was getting into there but had probably heard my brother mention that title at some point. In retrospect, I think the programmatic concept approach was a good one for getting my young ears deeply immersed in the music. I’m not the biggest Rush fan on the block these days, but I’ve still got a soft spot for that one and “Moving Pictures,” which was actually my second purchase!
