Flashback: “Hullabaloo” Debuts 45 Years Ago Today

The hour-long prime-time pop music television series “Hullabaloo” made its broadcast debut on January 12, 1965. It was NBC-TV’s response to “Shindig!,” which began airing on ABC-TV the previous year.

The host for the first episode of “Hullabaloo” was pop singer Jack Jones, and according to TV.com, here’s a recap of that first show:

1) Jack Jones (host) – “Hello Young Lovers”

2) The New Christy Minstrels (including Barry McGuire) – “Freedom Medley” and “(Glory, Glory) When I Lay My Burdon Down”

3) The New Christy Minstrels – “Ida Red”

4) Joey Heatherton joins the Hullabaloo dancers for a routine featuring a combination of different dances.
