Performing to a packed house last Friday the 13th, Holly & Evan invited whiz kids Ted Hennessy, Barry Hyman and Josh Greenberg to share the stage for an evening of hot, searing, foot-stomping blues. The Brunswick Barbecue & Brew on Route 2 in Brunswick is a favorite venue among local musicians – owner Gary “Goose” Gosselin and bartender James Colborn have created the perfect atmosphere – and when the musicians are having a good time, everyone wins.

There were far too many exciting performers at the recent Saratoga First Night in Saratoga Springs to mention… but people who wandered into the Arts Center on Broadway got a rare treat. Welcome to 2012!

New Year’s Eve in Saratoga Springs has become quite the Nippertown tradition, and for music fans, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do. It’s a non-stop cavalcade of some of our finest homegrown musical talent – jazz, rock, Celtic, country, blues, zydeco, folk, bluegrass and more. Just about every kind of musical style was in the air somewhere around town during the annual First Night Saratoga celebration. All total, there were more than 70 performances and happenings taking place at nearly three dozen different performance venues.

Last week, the Chandler Travis Philharmonic was on a blitzkreig mission, strafing Nippertown with their Spike Jones-meets-Ringling Brothers riotous rock-and-jazz hybrid sound. They tore it up at Zaika in Clifton Park last Thursday, threw it down at Peint O’Grw in Chatham on Friday and wrapped up the big lost weekend at the Lion’s Den at the Red Lion in Stockbridge on Sunday.

On Saturday evening, however, they kicked off the official launch of the 2011 Riverlink Park Concert Series in Amsterdam with a night of pure magical, musical mayhem. Hometown acoustic blues duo Holly & Evan shared the stage.
