From the Figgs to Blockhouses…

December 20th, 2013, 2:00 pm by Greg

This weekend, the Figgs are stirring up a big buzz with their annual holiday homecoming shows. Tonight (December 20) they’ll be at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany with Kitty Little opening the show, while on Saturday night (December 21), they’ll take the stage at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs with openers the Charlie Watts Riots.

But that’s not all of the news bubbling up on the Figgs front…

Former Figgs guitarist, Guy Lyons is parted ways with the band back in the day in order to complete his college education and start a family, but he didn’t stop writing music. During the past year or so, he’s been recording some rockin’ good demos.

It took a while for Lyons to gather together just the right bandmates, but bassist Christopher Peifer (the Kowalskis, Heavy Creatures, Another Saturday Night) and drummer Bill Wolf (Wolfhaven, Adam Lakes, Jet Screamers) fit the bill perfectly.

The name of Lyons’ new rockin’ power-pop trio is Blockhouses, so keep your eyes and ears open for ’em…

“Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Couldn’t Stand the Weather.’ I was in seventh grade. It’s all weathered and beat up, but I still have it.”

Guy Lyons reunites with his old bandmates the Figgs as the band celebrates its 25th anniversary with a pair of hometown shows this weekend. They’ll hit Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany at 9pm on Friday (August 17). Tix are $10. And they’ll follow up with a stop at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs at 10pm on Saturday (August 18), with Skeletons in the Piano opening the show. Tix are $10.
