In the folk world, “Texas troubadour” is another phrase for what’s known in the Northeast as a “singer-songwriter.” But Gurf Morlix is much more than that. In addition to being a performer and songwriter, he’s also a producer and a multi-instrumentalist behind of – or in front of – the soundboard for a who’s-who of musicians, including Lucinda Williams, Warren Zevon and Patty Griffin, just to name a few.
His resume reads like a who’s-who of uncompromising, roots-rockin’ Americana and Texas music.
Jim Lauderdale, Buddy & Julie Miller, Robert Earl Keen, Jr., Mary Gauthier, Butch Hancock, the Setters, Slaid Cleaves, Ruthie Foster, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Peter Case, the Hot Club of Cowtown, Eliza Gilkyson, Ian McLagan, Mojo Nixon, Jimmy LaFave, the Kennedys, Jon Langford, the Pine Dogs, Tom Russell… and the list goes on.
Gurf Morlix has worked with ’em all – as a musician, a songwriter and/or a producer.
