Utah Phillips

Pro-union folksinger George Mann rolls into Nippertown for a concert at the Altamont Village Hall, 115 Main St., Altamont, at 7:30pm on Friday. The concert is being presented by the James Connolly Upstate New York Branch of the IWW.

This concert will focus on the life, music and work of Bruce “Utah” Phillips, whose birthday is May 15. Phillips was a labor organizer, folk singer, storyteller, poet, sometime resident of Saratoga Springs and a regular at Caffe Lena. He was also the Golden Voice of the Great Southwest. Phillips died in 2008, but his work is carried on through like-minded singer-songwriters like Mann, whose upcoming solo album is “Songs for Jules and Bruce.”

Doors open at 7 PM, music starts at 7:30. Call (518) 861-5627 for more info.

Suggested donation: $5 – $10, all welcome. All proceeds go to benefit the Long Memory Project.
