Film: Will the Kinks Ever “Do It Again”?

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Yes, we know that it sounds kind of oxymoronic, but we seriously think that the Kinks are one of the most under-rated superstar bands of the rock era.

And like Boston Globe arts writer Geoff Edgers, we would love to the Kinks “Do It Again.”

I mean, really, wouldn’t a Kinks reunion be a magnificent thing? Despite the fact that brothers Ray and Dave Davies have been feuding almost since before Liam and Noel Gallagher were born?

Well, that’s pretty much what Robert Patton-Spruill’s film, “Do It Again: One Man’s Quest to Reunite the Kinks,” is all about – following Edgers around as he tries to make the impossible rock reunion happen. As a Don Quixote-like rock ‘n’ roll quest, it’s a glorious failure. But as a documentary film about fan-boy obsession, it’s an utterly fascinating concept.
