Opening Friday, October 22 at Galerie BMG in Woodstock is “Florilegium” (“a gathering of flowers”), an exhibit of works by Kim Kauffman inspired by the lush 17th and 18th century Europeans books of flower paintings that documented newly discovered botanical species from around the world.
Using a flatbed scanner, Kauffman collages together multiple layers of flowers, leaves, seed pods and other objects of nature to create an rich and detailed abstract visual environment.
The exhibition runs through November 29.
Keith Carter: By Twilight
One of our very favorite art exhibitions of last year was the stunning display of work by photographer Keith Carter
, “Poet of the Ordinary: Photographs by Keith Carter,” which was on exhibit last fall and winter at the College of St. Rose’s Massry Gallery
Carter’s current area exhibition, “By Twilight,” is a haunting and intensely intimate series of photographs of the photographer’s mother as she descends into Alzheimer’s disease. The exhibit is currently on view at Galerie BMG in Woodstock, and Carter will be on hand for a reception at the gallery from 7-8pm Friday. The exhibition will remain on view through Monday, June 28.
