Today’s spotlight is on pop and rock concerts:

LarkFEST @ Lark Street, Albany. 10am-5:30pm Saturday, September 25. Nippertown’s biggest outdoor street fest welcomes headliners Eli “Paperboy” Reed and Backyard Tire Fire, as well as such fab homegrown talent as Charlie Watts Riots, Sirsy and Tom McWatters. FREE.

All this week, we’ll be highlighting some of the fall season’s most promising arts, music and entertainment events around Nippertown. Mark your calendars.

Today’s spotlight is on the visual arts:

Woodstock Film Festival @ various locations in and around Woodstock. Wednesday-Sunday, September 29-October 3. Bunches of bunches of cool movies jammed into five days. Possible highlights: “Arias With a Twist: The Docufantasy,” in which gender-bending cabaret performer Joey Arias meets puppet genius Basil Twist; “Roscoe Holcomb: From Daisy, Kentucky” by musician-director John Cohen; “Stone” starring Edward Norton and Robert De Niro; “Welcome to the Rileys” starring Melissa Leo and James Gandolfini.

Michael Oatman: All Utopias Fell

Michael Oatman’s “All Utopias Fell” @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Opening Sunday, October 24. It’s the most hotly anticipated art event of the season. The sprawling three-part, massively ambitious, indoor-outdoor installation by Troy artist Michael Oatman finally has its much-delayed unveiling. The long-term installation – scheduled to run for several years – will be open seasonally, so catch it before the snow flies.
