First Night Saratoga is a fabulous New Year’s Eve smorgasbord of music and more, all crammed into a six-hour period from 6pm-12midnight on Wednesday, December 31. The largest New Year’s Eve celebration in New York State outside of NYC, the annual all-around-town extravaganza also rings in the 100th anniversary of Saratoga Springs’ incorporation as a city.

They came to the First Night Saratoga celebration say goodbye to 2013 and hello to 2014. And if you were looking to be entertained, well, you had plenty of options.

There were more than three dozen performance locations all around downtown Saratoga Springs. The Latin-tinged jazz of the Geo-Beat Quartet, the improv comedy of the Mop & Bucket Company, the blues of Holly & Evan, the classic soul and Motown of Garland Nelson’s Soul Session, the captivating tunes of singer-songwriter Ariana Gillis, the vintage Americana of Ramblin Jug Stompers, the Gypsy swing of C.C. Vagabonds, the bristling power-pop of the Charlie Watts Riots, the sparkling piano jazz of the Lee Shaw Trio, and so much more.

Jazz, rock, Celtic, country, blues, zydeco, folk, bluegrass – just about every kind of musical style will be on display during the annual First Night Saratoga celebration. All total, more than 70 performances and happenings will be taking place at 35 venues throughout Saratoga Springs from 6pm-12midnight on Saturday, December 31 making for an exciting New Year’s Eve capped off with a fireworks display in Congress Park.

Call For Entries: First Night Saratoga

Saratoga Arts has taken over the responsibility of putting together First Night Saratoga and it looks like they’re wasting no time in increasing its status as the most interesting thing to do on New Years Eve in all of Nippertown. They’re seeking artists to participate in this year’s event on December 31st:

We are looking for musicians of every genre to fill our venues with an array of sounds from the traditional to the cutting edge. We’re striving to present an entertaining and eclectic mix that will delight, inspire and enlighten music lovers of every stripe. Classical, country, rock, roots, world music, alternative and beyond – we welcome both established and emerging artists.
