Cartoons dancing

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

feifferIt seems almost sacrilegious to refer to Jules Feiffer as a mere “cartoonist.” After all, he’s written books, plays and screenplays, as well. But he’s undoubtedly best known for his cartoons which began appearing in the Village Voice more than 50 years ago. And his best known cartoons featured a solo dancer in a black leotard performing her “Dance to Spring.”

So what better place to honor the lifelong work of Feiffer than the area’s epicenter of dance, Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, Mass. “A Dance to Jules Feiffer” is an exhibition of Feiffer’s dance cartoons currently on display at Blake’s Barn at Jacob’s Pillow through Sunday, August 30.

And at 5pm on Wednesday, August 5, Feffer will give a free talk at the Pillow, and sign copies of his book, “Explainers: The Complete Village Voice Cartoons (1956-1966).”
