From Watertown in Greater Boston, the New Repertory Theatre has been known for the quality of its work. Finally the Berkshires will get a chance to see some of it as the company brings their daytime version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Becket at 3pm on Saturday (June 21) and Sunday (June 22) at the Dream Away Lodge. Presented by New Repertory Theatre’s Classic Repertory Company and directed by Clay Hopper, this is A Midsummer’s Night Dream that will be FREE and open to the public with donations accepted.
“We’re pleased to bring our professional touring company to the legendary Dream Away Lodge this summer,” says New Rep Artistic Director, Jim Petosa. “To present this spirited play in such a beautiful outdoor setting during the summer solstice is truly special, and will serve the play magnificently.”

The Dream Away Lodge in Becket is one of those great hidden treasures tucked away in the Berkshires. They attract world-class musical talent, and there’s never an admission charge, although they do like remind patrons that “Artists are performing for dinner and tips. We feed them and tip them generously – all you have to do is tip them, since they will have already been fed, so come with generous spirit and give back to the music as it gives to you…”
And the no-admission-charge policy extends to the Nouveau Revue 2, which takes place at the Dream Away Lodge this weekend with two great musical acts each night. On Friday, it’s Brown Bird and Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion. On Saturday night, Sean Rowe and Erin McKeown share the stage. And on Sunday evening, the music will be provided by Heather Maloney and winterpills. Full dinner menu will be served indoors, and festival food will also be available outdoors. Call for dinner reservations at (413) 623-8725; the music starts at 7:30pm each night.
ATTENTION SEAN ROWE FANS: By the way, don’t miss Rowe’s fab Daytrotter session from earlier this month. You can download it for free.
