ArtBeat: DownStreetArt Summertime Kick Off @ Downtown North Adams

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

It’s back and bigger than ever! DownStreetArt is a summer arts initiative now in its third year that aims to remind folk that North Adams is not just the home of MASS MoCA, but an arts destination in its own right. The opening Fourth Thursday celebration kicks off this Thursday, June 24, with a block party from 6-9pm that will include gallery exhibition openings, artist receptions and street musicians. Local businesses also will stay open late and offer specials. The Fourth Thursday celebrations reoccur in July, August and September, wrapping up with North Adams Open Studios Weekend on October 16-17.

This year DownStreetArt has expanded to include 37 separate art installations including 11 new locations. Here’s a printable map and schedule (PDF). There’s an entire summer’s worth of events, with gallery shows typically changing for each Fourth Thursday arts walk.
