11/2: This Day In History: Django Reinhardt Reinvents Jazz Guitar

82 years ago, in the early morning hours of November 2, 1928, 18-year old Django Reinhardt was horrifically burned in a fire that swept through his Gypsy wagon. He spent the next 18 months recuperating and had to relearn to play the guitar with only two fingers still functioning on his left hand. The signature style that he developed changed the face of jazz guitar forever.

Due to those always mysterious “unforeseen circumstances,” the upcoming tribute concert “Django Reinhardt at 100” featuring Dorado Schmitt and the Django NY Festival All-Stars – which was slated for the Calvin Theater in Northampton at 8pm on Saturday – has been cancelled.
