David Kraai: Country Dreamer

New Paltz-based Americana-roots singer-songwriter David Kraai rolls into town tonight for a performance with his musical partner Amy Laber at the Americana Tuesday show at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany.

Kraai is celebrating the release of his new album, Country Dreamer, which carries on the tradition of the classic country-rock hybrid that Gram Parsons called Cosmic American Music.

The 10-song album features guest appearances by Laber, as well as keyboardist Danny Louis (Gov’t Mule, the Cars), guitarist Jeff Cease (the Black Crowes, Eric Church), pedal steel guitarist Neil Flanz (Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Charlie Louvin), keyboardist Rob Clores (the Black Crowes) and more.

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … Something by the Monkees on vinyl. I was quite young and didn’t even know how much a record cost, but I wanted one by the Monkees (I had seen them on television and loved their show). No one was home, so I took all of my money and walked a ways to the local department store. They only had one by them, and I had just enough loot, so I bought it, and the rest may or may not be history…
