LIVE: Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women, 7/17

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Along with Bettye LaVette’s performance at Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at SPAC last month, this has got to rank as the best show of the summer so far.

Go here to read my review in the Times Union.

QUOTES OF NOTE

In explaining the title of the band’s album – which is simply “Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women” – Alvin announced, “Oh, it took us five minutes to come up with that title. ‘Disraeli Gears’ was already taken.”

And during the introduction to the final encore of the night, Alvin declared, “The secret of life is contained in this song by the great existential philosopher, Doris Day.”
