You probably drive-by it all the time without even ever really noticing it, except maybe for that big rock. Dana Park is that tiny, little pocket park in the heart of Albany at the intersection of Lark Street and Madison Avenue. And for the past seven years, it’s been home to the annual Dana Park Concert Series on Monday evenings all summer long.

It ain’t no big woo-hah like Alive at Five or Rockin’ On the River, but rather an intimate gathering of folks under the streetlights and an up-close chance to listen to some of the Local 518’s primo homegrown musical talent – from jazz (the Dylan Perrillo Orchestra, the New York Jazz Duo) to Americana (the Nellies, Ramblin Jug Stompers) and beyond.

The always charming barefoot singer-songwriter Olivia Quillio wrapped up this year’s eight-concert series with a lovely performance in support of her new album, Get Down and Pray. ‚ÄéMeara Mctague & Friends opened up the musical festivities for the evening.

The third annual Dana Park Concert Series kicks off with the special double-bill of the New York Jazz Duo and Citizen Genet at 6pm tonight (Monday, July 9).

All concerts in the series will begin at 7pm on Mondays, except where noted. Bring a chair. Bring a blanket. Or as John Hiatt says, “Bring the family.” The rain site for the concerts is Justin’s in Albany (just across the street on Lark Street).

Here’s the schedule of free performances for the summer of 2012:
