The two-day Clearwater Great Hudson River Revival festival returns to Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson on Saturday and Sunday, June 16-17, and to tell you the truth, there’s so much great music going on there that we’re not quite sure where to even begin.

How about Arlo Guthrie & the Guthrie Family with a very special centennial tribute to Woody Guthrie? Or maybe the super soul-soaked match-up of Joan Osborne and the Holmes Brothers performing together? Or perhaps it’s the Sunday string of performances by Alejandro Escovedo, Jill Sobule and Deer Tick, none of which are even on the main stage?

As usual, the summertime scene is jam-packed with all kinds of music festivals all throughout the Greater Nippertown area, and right up at the top of the list is next weekend’s marvelous Clearwater fest at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson.

Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival is a fabulous, two-day festival of music and more – with all proceeds going directly to support the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater’s ecological and environmental research, education and advocacy. The fest boasts seven different performance stages, and they brimming over with music both days from 11am til 8 or 8:30pm.

And the line-up of performers this year is especially awesome. The roster is chockfull of veterans like Pete Seeger, David Bromberg, John Sebastian, David Amram, Jorma Kaukonen, Bernice Johnson Reagon and Arlo Guthrie, as well as some of the brightest stars on the current music scene – namely the Low Anthem, David Wax Museum and the Felice Brothers.

Clearwater Festival

We are hereby declaring this to be Festival Fever week here at Nippertown.com, and each day this week we’ll be giving you the details of an upcoming local festival of music, art, dance and/or literature. So stay tuned. (We jumped the gun a bit with the announcement of the complete line-up – with links to each of the musicians and photos by Andrzej Pilarczyk – for the Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at SPAC, which we posted yesterday. If you missed it, just go here.)

The initial line-up for the 2010 Clearwater Great Hudson River Revival is chockful of great performers – from Steve Earle to Railroad Earth, from the subdudes to Shawn Colvin, from Joan Osborne to Buckwheat Zydeco. And, it probably doesn’t come as too big a surprise, but the legendary Pete Seeger will also be singing on both days – Saturday and Sunday, June 19-20 – in Croton Point Park in Croton-On-Hudson.

In addition to all of the great music, the Clearwater fest also features superb storytellers and family-oriented entertainers, as well juried crafts, a Green Living Expo, a working riverfront and environmental education sites.
