Troy, NY – The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute announces “HeadSwap,” a free event showcasing the culmination of a three-week EMPAC residency by CREW, a Belgian-based multidisciplinary team of artists and researchers. The event will take place in EMPAC’s Studio 1—Goodman on Saturday, January 26 at 7 PM.
CREW’s performances integrate the latest technology into theatrical events, which create new ways of playing and experiencing the medium. They have personalized immersive environments for the audience—challenging common notions of (tele)presence, spectatorship, and narration.
“HeadSwap” takes the next step in immersive performance. Participants can navigate and choose their individual point of view within omni-directional footage from Japan and New York City, while “swapping their heads” and simultaneously seeing what another person chooses to see.
