Fab fiddler Emerald Rae is totally adept not only in Cape Breton and Scottish fiddle traditions, but in Irish and old-timey as well. The Gloucester-based musician and her bandmates – the multi-talented Eden Forman and the fiery, redheaded Somer O’Brien – showcased all of these styles and often melded them together as they performed in concert at the Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls in support of Rae’s latest album, If Only I Could Fly.

Brattleboro folk-rockers Wooden Dinosaur rolled into Glens Falls recently as part of the Crandall Public Library’s Live! Folklife Concert Series.

Led by singer-songwriter-guitarist Michael Roberts, Wooden Dinosaur took the stage as a stripped-down three-piece combo focusing on selections from Rhubarb Wine, their third album as a full band.

Based out of Portland, Oregon, Mando Planet is, as you might suspect, based around the mandolin. Not one, but two mandolins played by the duo of Jack Dwyer and Tim Connell. And Mando Planet is not only the name of the dynamic 16-string twosome, but it’s also the name of their latest album.

The current exhibition at Friends Gallery at the Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls is titled “assemblage,” curated by the artist Jon Segan. There are seven artists represented, however it doesn’t feel overwhelming; the work is thoughtfully placed and spacious.

Art Historian and Skidmore Professor Emeritus James Kettlewell stated, “I would note that this is both the most striking and the most interesting art exhibit in the Capitol Region. In the art of assemblage, the artist assembles both found and created objects, in this case, into beautiful and expressive arrangements.

Real Good for FREE: Live! Folklife Concerts @ the Crandall Public Library

The popular Live! Folklife Concerts continue this fall with a half dozen free concerts hosted by the Folklife Center at the Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls.

The concerts all take place at 7pm on Thursdays, beginning on September 26 with old-school country music favorites Al & Kathy Bain and running through November 21.

Real Good for Free: Crandall Public Library, Glens Falls

The Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls continues to provide free concerts, and they manage to attract some of the finest acoustic talent around.

On Wednesday evening, it’s the superb singer-songwriter Michael Jerling with Teresina Huxtable and bass-master Tony Markellis (of the Trey Anastasio Band).

Here’s the schedule for the upcoming month at the Crandall Library. All concerts take place at 7pm on Wednesdays:
