“Eight more miles on the Erie Canal…”

Yes, the Erie Canal is the stuff of legend and song, so when the canal and music come together, well, it’s a beautiful thing. And that’s exactly what’s happening this weekend with the Lock 7-12 Canalfest. It’s all happening at various locations around Nippertown. And it’s free!

The fest is a wonderful, family-friendly event that includes water ski shows, fireworks displays, hayrides, boatrides, skydiving demonstrations, arts and crafts exhibits and lots more.

Here’s the lowdown on the best music at Canalfest:

Real Good for Free: Canalfest @ Mabee Farm

As part of Canalfest, Locks 7-12, the historic Mabee Farm in Rotterdam Junction hosts two days of free music and other activities. The fest takes place between 12noon-5pm on Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9.

On Saturday, August 8, you can hear Pat Wictor, Mike & Ruthy, Scott Ainslie, the Riverview Ramblers and Annie & the Hedonists.

The Sunday line-up, meanwhile, features Red Molly, Black Creek and the Mariaville Cattle Company.
